RETRO This is a fun style where items from the 50's and 60's are combined to give the room a relaxed and very unique look. It is almost (actually it is like) going back in-time to a simpler era. It is also called Kitsch. These 'trendy' items can be found in garage sales, flea markets and even on-line. They consist of chrome kitchen furniture, naugahyde and vinyl fabrics and plastic clocks and accessories. The color themes would depend on the colors of the items in the room, but don't let the colors clash or overpower the furniture. If you want your furniture to stand out use white or off-white on the walls. SHABBY CHIC An interesting and not expensive design style for your home if you like old and worn furniture. You can find many pieces in garage sales and flea markets. Bring the pieces home and distress them with paint and wear down the edges to expose the finish underneath. Old lace and pastel floral fabrics add to the charm. You can also mix fabric patterns as long as the background colors are the same or similar. Slipcover old sofas and chairs. This style fills a room with interesting finds of old pieces . ECLECTIC This style is a combination of other styles and combined through color, shapes and textures. Different textures and finishes add to the charm and feel of the eclectic style. And, you have the ability of using antiques and contemporary and modern furniture together in one room. You can mix florals with stripes and plaids using similar colors. The wall colors should be in neutral tones to complement the colors in the fabrics and materials of the furnishings .
